Peter Heylands, art & performance ...

Peter Heylands' story is a captivating blend of artistic passion, chance encounters, and unexpected twists. Born on June 9, 1966, in Belgium, his early years were marked by a deep love for drawing, painting, and the mystical world of magic. From a young age, he pursued these passions with great fervour, taking art lessons and eventually completing his studies in the vibrant city of Paris, where he absorbed a rich tapestry of artistic knowledge in preparation for a career in the arts. However, fate had other plans.

At just 18, he won first prize in an international conjuring competition, marking the auspicious beginning of his career as an entertainer. His journey took a pivotal turn when he joined the esteemed French cabaret troupe "Les Oiseaux du Paradis," embarking on a whirlwind tour across France, Belgium, Germany, and finally the USA, where he stayed for several years.

During this period, Heylands created a special act in which he painted a portrait upside down in just a few minutes, accompanied by carefully chosen music. This act was so successful that Heylands was featured on numerous international TV channels, once again earning international recognition, but this time as a painter. In February 2024, Heylands'  paint- act was featured once again in the show "Legends" in Las Vegas.

What typifies Heylands' art is his continuous search for new ways to express himself, a phenomenon that can also be observed in the grand masters of the past.
